Green Card Law Extension

Share

Re “An Immigration Policy Muddle,” editorial, Oct. 2:

The Times sees the extension of Section 245 (i) as “practical and compassionate.” I suggest that this is part of a process that contributes to illegal immigration being out of control. To make laws and then consistently waffle on them and abolish or delay implementation of deadlines is to actually encourage people to flout those laws in anticipation of yet another round of compassionate enforcement slippage. It’s obvious where we’re headed if this becomes only the latest example of being unwilling to enforce immigration law.

I sadly predict that by 2003 The Times will be arguing that another massive immigration amnesty will be the only “practical and compassionate” thing to do.

Pathetically, the majority of Congress has sold out this country for possible future votes by extending the illegal immigrants’ free ride by three weeks. Odds are, this action will be the eventual demise of both the Democratic and Republican parties; and good riddance.

Our dead soldiers, comrades in arms, who gave their lives in combat for this country, must be screaming, why have you forsaken us? Politicians create wars, they don’t fight in them!
