That famous cartoon bear, Yogi, is a friendly fellow, having adventures with pal Boo Boo, girlfriend Cindy and Mr. Ranger. But real bears aren’t so sociable. In fact, they’re loners. A male and female may live together briefly during mating season, in the summer. Then the male wanders away, leaving the female to find a place for the cubs to be born. The cubs stay with their mother for a year or two, until they learn how to hunt for food. Then they head out on their own.
