Gunmen Kill Driver, 16 Children on Bus
Armed men attacked a school bus in a region hard hit by Islamic insurgents, killing 16 children and their driver, hospital sources said. The bus crashed and rolled onto its side when the driver apparently tried to run a roadblock set up by the attackers, the sources said. Some of the children died from gunshot wounds to the head, they said. The attack took place in Bouinan, about 15 miles south of Algiers, the capital. The town is in the heart of a region targeted by the Armed Islamic Group, a militant group suspected in repeated massacres of civilians.
