A day nursery will break ground today for a new infant-toddler facility named for Mayor Beverly O’Neill.

O’Neill was once enrolled at the nursery, which has been serving the city’s working parents for 85 years.

“It was a godsend for my mom and a wonderful experience for me,” said O’Neill, 67. “With all the working parents today, there is even a greater demand.”

The Beverly Lewis O’Neill Infant-Toddler Center will serve 18 infants (ages 6 weeks to 12 months) and 39 toddlers (12 to 30 months). The facility, which will cost $1.3 million, is scheduled to open in fall of 1998.
