Toxic Drop-Off Days Scheduled

Two separate toxic drop-off days have been scheduled for residents and businesses in Thousand Oaks.

The household toxic waste disposal day is scheduled for Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is free and by appointment only.

Residents of Thousand Oaks and unincorporated county areas can call the city’s 24-hour recycling and information hotline at 449-SAVE for appointments and the drop-off location. Residents are limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of materials per appointment.

The drop-off day for businesses will be held Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1993 Rancho Road in Newbury Park. Businesses that produce less than 27 gallons or 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month are eligible.

Appointments are mandatory. There is no charge for the first 50 pounds of waste, though there may be a charge for waste expensive to dispose of or excessive waste. Rate sheets are available. Businesses can call 449-2470 for more information, appointments and admission passes.

Acceptable materials during both drop-off days include motor oil, fuels, paints, solvents, pool and photography chemicals, art supplies, fertilizers, poisons, laboratory materials and medical needles.

Tires, explosives and ammunition, radioactive waste, infectious waste, and unknown chemicals or unlabeled containers will not be accepted.
