LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Ventura County has a reputation as a bastion of conservative politics, but a new Times Poll shows a strong streak of moderation also comes with the territory here.

We set out last month to conduct one of the most thorough studies yet of who we are and what we believe in this county. The result is a four-part series, “Life in a Changing County,” which explores our views on politics, growth, crime, education, immigration and other issues.

I think you will find it an especially insightful look. The series begins on Sunday and will run on consecutive Sundays over the next month. With several school bond issues and elections in Ventura and Thousand Oaks, this is an appropriate time to be looking at the county’s politics. This year, for the first time, we are making political endorsements.

While you’re at it on Sunday, please take a look at the Editorial Page for our endorsements in the Ventura City Council race and our stand on the Thousand Oaks recall election.
