Doctor Group Latest to Apologize to Jews
The head of the Order of Doctors apologized for his profession’s support of wartime laws that barred Jewish doctors from practicing, and he called for freer access to wartime archives. “We can only regret . . . with gravity and humility . . . the barbarity some of our colleagues and their families lived through,” said Dr. Bernard Glorion, president of the order, which represents 180,000 members nationwide. It was the latest apology in a country that has long struggled with its World War II past, during which the Vichy regime collaborated with the Nazi occupiers.
