Kim Vows to Uphold Late Father’s Policies

Kim Jong Il, stepping into his late father’s role as “great leader,” has pledged to uphold the latter’s strict policies, the official news agency reported. “However long and difficult the road of our revolution pioneered and led by the Great Leader, Comrade Kim Il Sung, may be, we must staunchly keep to this road,” Kim was quoted as saying by the Korean Central News Agency. The remarks were Kim’s first reported statement on policy since his election last week as general secretary of the ruling Workers’ Party.
