Summit to Address Elder Abuse Issues

Federal, state and local officials will weigh in with their perspectives on crime against senior citizens during Ventura County’s 6th Annual Elder Abuse Summit next week.

The summit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the Ventura Townehouse, 4900 Telegraph Road, Ventura.

During the summit, Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury will discuss his office’s elder abuse and senior crime prevention program.

Percy Devine, regional program director for the U.S. Administration on Aging, will speak on federal legislation and the re-authorization of the Older Americans Act.

John Kehoe, executive director of the California Commission on Aging, will address existing and pending state legislation and the commission’s activities.

Barbara Fitzgerald, acting director of the Ventura County Public Social Services Agency, will discuss her agency’s role in responding to elder abuse reports.

Registration for the summit is $35 and includes continental breakfast and lunch.

Continuing Education credits are available.
