Man Will Explain His Storm-Plotting System

A City Terrace man’s 30-year campaign to change the way weather predictions are made will take a new turn today when his forecasting technique gets an airing before meteorologists.
Oscar Singer will explain his storm-plotting procedure to the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Meteorological Society at 8 p.m. at UCLA.
Singer, 76, asserts that weather can be predicted with pinpoint accuracy by plotting the path of storms with a simple grid system that traces high- and low-pressure points.
Until now, however, the response of professional weather forecasters has been something of a cold front.
Meteorologists suggest that making accurate weather forecasts is more complicated than tracing angles on maps and have shrugged off Singer’s idea as unproven--and unprovable.
The session, open to the public, will be held in room 7124 of Boelter Hall, officials said.
