Limited Balloon Ads Given Final Approval

The skyline of the city’s two major thoroughfares promises to be more colorful in the coming months.

Balloon advertising has come to Stanton.

Council members gave their final approval Tuesday to the city’s first ordinance allowing limited advertising with balloons and giant, lighter-than-air inflatable figures.

Only businesses on Beach Boulevard and Katella Avenue can qualify to fly large balloon signs, such as the whales and gorillas seen in neighboring cities. Businesses are required to have a minimum frontage of 200 feet to qualify and can fly the large balloon signs only during four 30-day periods each year.

Councilman William C. Estrada said he will consider changing the ordinance after the six-month trial period expires to allow community organizations to use outdoor balloons for special events.
