A series of lectures by archeologists familiar with noted biblical sites in Israel and environs will begin Oct. 27 at the University of Judaism in the Sepulveda Pass.

The Monday night series, which continues through Dec. 15, will begin with Leen Ritmeyer, chief architect for Temple Mount excavations in Jerusalem, describing the sites of Solomon’s and Herod’s temples. Later speakers will include Carol Meyers of Duke University, David Ussishkin of Tel Aviv University and William Dever, a professor emeritus at the University of Arizona. $110 for the series; $15 single admission. * The Dead Sea Scrolls, the 2,000-year-old Jewish sectarian writings discovered 50 years ago, will be discussed by scholars Sunday at the Jewish Community Center of Orange County, 250 E. Baker St., Costa Mesa. Speaking at the 2 p.m. seminar will be James Robinson of Claremont Graduate University, Bruce Zuckerman of the USC School of Religion and Richard Sneed, chancellor emeritus of Saddleback College.
