Airport Guard Held in Drug Smuggling Scheme

A private security guard at Los Angeles International Airport who is suspected of taking $700 to help a drug courier smuggle cocaine through airport checkpoints has been charged with conspiracy to distribute narcotics, authorities said Tuesday.

Danny Kay McFrazier, who also was charged with aiding and abetting, was arrested Sept. 6, but federal authorities said they delayed announcing the arrest because they did not want to endanger another investigation at the airport.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has information that McFrazier helped other drug couriers slip past airport checkpoints, said DEA spokeswoman Sharon Carter. The agency is investigating the incidents and whether other airport security guards were involved in the scheme, she said.

McFrazier was not employed by the airport or an airline, but worked for a private security firm hired by the airlines, she said.
