Ramirez on Reno

Share

I’m not sure what Michael Ramirez had in mind when he drew the cartoon (Oct. 20) of Atty. Gen. Janet Reno draped in a large Nazi uniform complete with swastika and battle helmet. The swastika in the cartoon is drawn extremely small. Is that to make it less offensive?

Is he saying Reno is a Nazi? Or, does he think the bumbling sergeant in the “Hogan’s Heroes” TV show was a harmless stooge to parody Reno with? Whichever, I think Ramirez should be careful. For most of us the Nazi image is a powerful symbol of ultimate evil and corruption. “Hogan’s Heroes” was a TV show, not reality. Reality is millions dead through a campaign of genocide, not partisan politics. Where’s Paul Conrad?

Conrad has a more-than-able competitor in Ramirez. What a refreshing addition to The Times.
