Spotlight: Apple the Only S&P; 500 Stock to Rise

Share

Apple Computer Inc. shares rose 19 cents, or 1.13%, to close at $16.75 on Monday--the only stock in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index that managed a gain. Analysts credited the rise to co-founder Steven Jobs, who was reportedly returning from a Hawaiian vacation after soul-searching walks during which he mulled whether to take Apple’s top job again. “People believe Steve is going to come back and take the job, and they like that,” one analyst said. There was no news on whether Jobs had made up his mind.
