Onyx Acceptance Corp.: The Irvine automobile finance company said net income for the third quarter totaled $657,829, or 10 cents a share, down 56% from the $1.5 million, or 23 cents a share, for the same period of 1996. The company said that 1996 income was taxed at the rate of 19.7%, compared with 41.6% for 1997. Net income for the nine months dropped to $1.9 million, or 30 cents a share, from $6.8 million, or $1.29 a share, for the same period last year.
