Student Achievers

Thank you for your Oct. 22 editorial, “Gratitude at the Summit,” regarding George Lee, Carmel Levitan and Howard Chong, who graduated from the North Hollywood High School Highly Gifted Magnet last year. Finally, someone recognizes the value of teachers in the process of student achievement. The teachers in our magnet center are outstanding; they are enthusiastic, caring and supportive.

Some people feel gifted and highly gifted students can “make it” in any environment and have no need for special programs. The Advanced Placement results belie that attitude. Highly gifted students need nurturing and support as much as any other students in special education programs.
