Medical administrator Gil Carmona has been named executive director of the Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter, which provides emergency and temporary shelter to homeless families in Orange County.
Carmona, who was previously regional chief executive officer of Community Psychiatric Centers Inc. in Santa Ana and Laguna Hills, will oversee all aspects of the shelter’s management and operations in his new position, officials said.
Carmona, a licensed clinical social worker, holds a master’s degree in social work from USC and a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
The shelter, founded in 1981, is one of the oldest and largest shelters for homeless families in the county, housing nearly 60 adults and 50 children a day. It also teaches people how to conduct job searches and become self-sufficient.
