There is an interesting connection between the two stories printed on Page 22 last Sunday (“Play ‘Em Again, Sam” and “No, But We’ve Played the CD-ROM Version”).

In addition to breaking new ground with archival soundtracks, Rhino Entertainment has also led the way with music in new technologies by working with 3Vision and Tri-Tone Music to create and release the soundtrack for “Fox Hunt,” the first soundtrack to an interactive game. (Writer Matt Pyken conceived the use of classic rap and surf music, along with modern rock songs, to serve as actual clues within the game, and additional clues are written into the liner notes of the soundtrack. Mark Mothersbaugh provided the game’s score.)

Whether it’s the tug we feel in our hearts when Dooley Wilson sings “As Time Goes By” or the rush we get beating the bad guys to Dick Dale’s “The Wedge” some 55 years later, music will always be integral to the storytelling experience, no matter what form the story may take.
