Scotts Valley-based Seagate Technology Inc. promoted Stephen Luczo to the new position of president and chief operating officer at the world’s largest independent disk drive maker. Luczo, 40, will oversee Seagate’s storage products, recording media and recording heads businesses. He will remain chairman of Seagate’s software division. . . . Oakville-based Robert Mondavi Corp. shares rose 6% amid speculation that a plentiful grape harvest will cut costs and that overseas joint ventures will boost profit. The winemaker’s shares rose $2.88 to close at $50.50 in Nasdaq trading. . . . Fremont-based Avant Corp. said it agreed to buy Sunnyvale-based Technology Modeling Associates Inc. for $17 a share in stock, or about $150 million, boosting its capabilities in computer-aided chip design and heating up its bitter rivalry with Cadence Design Systems Inc. . . . Sunnyvale-based network security provider Cylink Corp. said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Israel-based Algorithmic Research for $83 million in cash and stock.
