Auction to Benefit Boys & Girls Club

A flapjack breakfast personally prepared by state Sen. Jack O’Connell (D-Santa Barbara) is but one item to be auctioned off in a Sept. 20 fund-raiser for the Santa Paula Boys & Girls Club.

Kris Kuzmich, O’Connell’s administrative aide and assistant batter mixer, said O’Connell will personally flip the flapjacks for the highest bidder.

“But his recipe is a secret,” Kuzmich said. “The only thing he’ll say is that it’s all in the wrist.”

Another perhaps even more tasty item to be auctioned will be a firehouse feast donated by Santa Paula firefighters. Six guests will be picked up by a firetruck with flashing lights and whisked to fire station No. 2, where dinner prepared by firefighters will await, said Patti Harrison, co-chairman of the annual fund-raiser.

“A 1985 BMW, a massage a month for a year, and half a pig from the Ventura County Fair livestock auction, plus art and jewelry are some other goods and services that will be on the auction block,” said fellow co-chair Cynthia Winn.

Tickets for the Polynesian-style dinner with entertainment are $30 per person or $55 per couple and are available at the Santa Paula Times, the Santa Paula Boys & Girls Club or by calling 525-7910.

Corporate tables are available.

The event will be held at the Santa Paula Community Center.
