Bodyguard Can’t Talk Yet, Family Says
The bodyguard who could help unravel the twisted trail ending in Princess Diana’s death is conscious and recovering from 10 hours of surgery to rebuild his shattered face, a hospital said Monday. But his parents said he cannot talk yet.
A statement released by the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital, where Diana and bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones were taken after the Aug. 31 crash, said Rees-Jones was conscious.
He has a mangled jaw, however, and will not be able to speak “for some time,” his parents said in a statement released by the British Embassy.
Police are eager to question Rees-Jones about the crash that also killed Diana’s beau, Dodi Fayed, and the car’s driver, Henri Paul. Rees-Jones, 29, who as Fayed’s bodyguard earned the nickname “Dodi’s shadow,” was the sole survivor.
