MY FAVORITE WEEKEND
Kerri Strug, Olympic gold medalist in women’s team gymnastics and UCLA sophomore
Staying in Shape: Saturday mornings my roommate, Libby Blamey, and I usually run the perimeter of UCLA or take a spinning class at L.A. Fitness. Exercise takes about two hours, but afterward we go to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf or Jamba Juice and treat ourselves for working out.
L.A. Woman: Since I’m living in L.A., I try to do Hollywood-type things as much as I can. I am a big fan of Planet Hollywood for dinner. It’s not on my diet, but they make a special chicken Caesar salad pizza for me. We went to see Jay Leno one night and then walked on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Late Nights: When I was training for the Olympics, I had to be in bed by 10:30. Now that I’m in college, I’m lucky if I get to bed by 2 a.m. We go to see movies in Westwood and then we go to get yogurt at Penguin’s on Westwood and Olympic.
Out of Town: This summer I traveled every weekend with all of my Olympic teammates on the John Hancock Gymnastics Tour. It has taken me all over the country. [The tour will be in Anaheim Nov. 15.]
Dining Out: I like the Ivy and the Newsroom on Robertson. Both are pretty healthy. But a lot of times we don’t go fancy since we’re in college. We go to Baja Fresh, Koo Koo Roo or California Pizza Kitchen.
On Wheels: I just learned how to roller-blade and on Sundays, Libby and I go to Santa Monica to skate near the beach. She’s 5-10 and I’m 4-9 so it’s quite a sight.
