Gunman Kills 7 Farm Workers
A gunman used an automatic hunting rifle to kill seven people and seriously injure one in Latvia as they were harvesting potatoes in a field, officials said. The gunman fled on foot, and police were hunting him in and around nearby farms. A local news agency reported that the killings were an apparent revenge attack, because the gunman had accused his victims of setting fire to his house. Interior Ministry spokesman Normund Belskis said the people were shot near the town of Iecava in southern Latvia, about 25 miles from the capital, Riga.
