Matthew Brady’s Photos Displayed

If you’re hungry for more history in Washington, D.C., stop by the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. Starting Friday, through Jan. 4, more than 100 images by famed Civil War photographer Matthew Brady go on display there. Curators say it’s the first time the full range of his work--including daguerreotypes, stereographs and hand-colored prints--has been displayed since he closed his studio more than a century ago. The focus is on his portrait work, which ranged from Abraham Lincoln to P.T. Barnum. Admission is free. Information: (202) 357-2700.
