Police Exchange With Mexican City Planned

Brea and its sister city, Lagos de Moreno, Mexico, have initiated a police officer exchange program under which the two departments will swap officers for 30-day assignments.

On alternate months beginning this fall, Brea will send an officer to Lagos de Moreno, while an officer from that department will work in Brea.

“We have high hopes for the Sister City Officer Exchange,” Brea Police Chief William C. Lentini said. “We believe it will have a very positive impact on the participating officers and our communities.”

Lentini said the goal of the program is to broaden understanding of language, culture and customs, helping officers better serve their own communities. Officers will reside with local families during their assignments to encourage immersion in the culture and help language skills.
