Hundreds of disabled equestrian athletes will show off their riding and jumping skills Saturday at the annual Tri-Valley Special Olympics Pegasus Creek Invitational Equestrian Competition.

The event is expected to draw riders from equestrian centers throughout the area, including the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys, Burbank and Glendale.

The fourth annual event features athletes who are mentally and physically handicapped, but have learned to master riding techniques, organizers said.

The competition, which has been recognized as a premier event by the Special Olympics, is co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Warner Center in association with other area Kiwanis and Key clubs.

The event also will feature breakfast with the competitors, entertainment, games, arts and crafts and a silent auction.

Proceeds from the competition will benefit the equestrian program, with blankets for the horses and helmets for the riders.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pegasus Creek Equestrian Center, 2972 Triunfo Canyon Road.
