Whittaker Subsidiary Distributes in Japan

Xyplex Networks, the communications arm of Simi Valley-based Whittaker Corp., has completed a partnership agreement with Marubun Corp. to be Xyplex’s master distributor in Japan.

As Xyplex’s distributor, Marubun--a $1-billion electronics, computer and semiconductor manufacturing company based in Tokyo-- will establish a network of Japanese electronics and networking firms to sell Xyplex products under the Xyplex Networks name.

“The Japanese networking market is fast-moving and offers immense potential for Xyplex Networks,” said Xyplex CEO Michael Thurk.

“Marubun is an ideal partner because of their name recognition, high-technology background and market presence.”

It is estimated that the market opportunity for local- and wide-area networking products in Japan will reach $4 billion annually by 2000. Xyplex products address the network edge where the local-area network meets the wide-area public network.

Headquartered in Littleton, Mass., Xyplex is a wholly owned subsidiary of Whittaker Corp. The company operates offices throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, South Africa and the Pacific Rim.
