Officials Move to Outlaw Unsolicited Handbills

The City Council has taken the first step toward outlawing the delivery of unsolicited handbills in neighborhoods.

The council asked the city attorney Monday to draft an ordinance that would make it illegal for vendors to deliver handbills to residents who to join a list of residents who do not want such materials.

“These things are a total nuisance for people living in my district,” said Councilman Paul Little, who proposed the new law.

Little said that a handbill is fastened to his door and the bills litter the neighborhood almost on a daily basis. City officials said the new law would also apply to free publications that are delivered unsolicited.
