Teen Sentenced for Role in Park Slaying
A New York City judge sentenced 15-year-old Daphne Abdela to up to 10 years in a juvenile prison for helping kill a man in Manhattan’s Central Park. Abdela tearfully admitted her role in the slaying of real estate agent Michael McMorrow in a statement to Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Michael Corriero. She pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter. He sentenced her to a maximum of 10 years and a minimum of 3 1/2 years. Under a plea deal, Abdela admitted she participated in the killing of McMorrow, who was stabbed 30 times and dumped in a Central Park lake on May 23, 1997.
