New Restaurant on Pier Slated to Open in Fall

For the first time in at least 30 years, new construction is underway on the Redondo Beach Pier and, by next fall, a restaurant that city officials hope will draw local customers is set to open.

Seattle-based Restaurants Unlimited has started construction on Kincaid’s Fish, Chop and Steak House, an upscale eatery, on the north side of the pier. The 10,000-square-foot restaurant is scheduled to be completed in September.

Pier merchants and city officials believe the new restaurant will play a key role in revitalizing the pier, which underwent a $10-million face-lift a decade ago after a storm and fire that destroyed much of the structure.

“We could have redesigned it as just your standard vanilla pier but we made something that would help us recapture the 12-month-a-year business that we used to have,” said City Manager Paul Connelly.
