More Rain to Fall on Southland

The cold Pacific storm that socked Southern California on Saturday is expected to bring more rainfall to the area during the late morning and afternoon today.

The storm, which began in the Gulf of Alaska, snarled traffic on some area freeways Saturday and caused a fatal accident in southeast Los Angeles County.

A 33-year-old man driving his big rig was killed in a multi-vehicle collision involving another large truck on the southbound lanes of the Long Beach Freeway in Bell, authorities said.

His name was not released, and one other minor injury was reported. The cause of the 11:30 a.m. crash was under investigation.

Today’s cold weather system should keep temperatures below normal and is expected to drop the most rain--up to 2 inches--in San Diego County, according to WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

The rain is expected to last through the night and possibly into Monday morning before giving way to partially sunny skies and warmer temperatures by Tuesday. The dry weather should last through the week.

“It doesn’t look like any major storms are out there,” said WeatherData meteorologist John Sherwin.
