Ojai resident Angele Marie Boyd died Thursday. She was 83.

Boyd was born Oct. 4, 1914, in New Orleans and was raised in Biloxi, Miss.

She moved to California in 1953 and lived in Mill Valley in Marin County for 25 years with her husband and two daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave.

In Mill Valley, Boyd was an elementary school teacher at the privately owned 3R School, said her daughter, Patti Brandeburg of Simi Valley. Boyd taught third and fourth grade, Brandeburg said.

“She just loved children. She was a serious and thoughtful person, not a frivolous type,” Brandeburg said. “She was quite interested in teaching children to read, and she was very good at it.”

Boyd moved from Mill Valley to Santa Monica in 1978 and lived there for five years before relocating to Ojai, Brandeburg said.

Boyd was a lay member in the San Buenaventura Fraternity, a Franciscan service organization that patterns its charity work after St. Francis of Assisi, Brandeburg said.

Boyd also was a Eucharistic minister at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai. She often took communion to people who were homebound, in nursing homes or in hospitals. She ministered for many years to female jail inmates, Brandeburg said.

In addition to Brandeburg, Boyd is survived by another daughter, Shannon M. Boyd-Thornberry of France; and a brother, Frank P. LeSquin of Pennsylvania.

There will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ojai. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption Cemetery in Simi Valley.
