* AMR Corp.’s American Airlines and British Airways are nearing an agreement to surrender takeoff and landing slots in London to win European Union approval for their planned alliance, an EU spokesman said. The European Commission will rule in May, the spokesman said. The commission has been trying to wring concessions from the carriers, including the yielding of slots at London’s Heathrow Airport.
