Skateboard Park Not in Village Entrance Project

Share

The City Council this week re-energized expansion plans for its village entrance, a half-mile stretch of Laguna Canyon Road that leads to downtown.

Council members Tuesday agreed to review elements suggested for the plan and meet within 60 days to discuss the project. Ideas have included a parking garage and a restaurant.

A proposal to build the city’s first skateboard parkthere failed to garner enough support among city leaders for a vote.

Councilman Wayne L. Peterson, who is spearheading efforts for a skateboard park, suggested that it be built on a plot near Aliso Creek. But council members rejected that idea because of potential noise problems for neighbors.

“Maybe there isn’t a place to put a large skateboard park,” Councilwoman Kathleen Blackburn said.
