Council to Take at Least 6 Months to Select New Manager

It will be at least six months and possibly close to a year before the City Council selects a permanent city manager.

At a special meeting Wednesday, some council members said they would like to take a close look at well-run cities to see how they operate before choosing a successor for Phil Hawkey, who resigned last month.

The council expressed little willingness to hire a search firm to find a replacement.

Councilman Paul Little said the council should delay hiring efforts for six months anyway to allow acting City Manager Cynthia Kurtz an opportunity to grow into the permanent job.

“I am very happy with the job she is doing,” Little said.
