La Habra Plagued by Societal Ills

Share

The city of La Habra needs to focus on improving its community identity. Although the recent murders are not directly related, The Times’ reporters correctly identified the town’s deteriorating social ecology as a concern (“4 Slayings in 3 Months Rock Quiet La Habra,” March 31).

Our City Council has correctly focused on improving La Habra’s semirural identity. Beautification is a high priority again after years of neglect. Stopping the huge loss in property values after years of economic decline will require visionary planning.

As we approach the turn of the century and La Habra’s 75th anniversary, we can only hope for effective leadership.

La Habra

* La Habra is a microcosm of any metropolitan area plagued by similar social ills, a clueless Police Department with various racist attitudes, a community divided along class and racial lines.

With an ever-increasing proportion of “losers” deprived of lives and necessities, individuals develop the pathologies that include family breakup and violent crime.
