High Court Upholds Districting Ruling
The U.S. Supreme Court refused to let North Carolina avoid redrawing a voting district that a lower court said was wrongly created as a safe haven for black candidates. The Supreme Court’s refusal to postpone the order of a federal panel jeopardizes a congressional primary election scheduled for May 5. The district meanders through the state, connecting predominantly black towns from Charlotte to Greensboro. The court refused the request in a 6-3 vote.
