From Times Wire Reports

Surgeons removed part of Czech President Vaclav Havel’s large intestine during emergency surgery that interrupted his Easter vacation in the Alps. After a successful 3 1/2-hour operation to remove an inflamed area, surgeons in Innsbruck said fears of a malignant tumor were not confirmed. Havel, 61, has had numerous health problems linked to lung cancer, but the president’s doctors said the latest troubles were unrelated. If no complications develop, Havel was expected to remain hospitalized for 10 to 12 days.
