Noisy Neighborhood Seeks Sound Wall, Rail Overpass

Share

For the past several years, the roar and rumble of trains passing at all hours have troubled Kathy Wright and other Anaheim residents just east of Imperial Highway.

“You can’t enjoy your home, watch TV or enjoy a conversation outside,” said Wright, a 25-year resident of Friendly Village Mobile Home Park.

But relief may be on the way for residents next to the double-track railroad corridor that parallels Esperanza Road.

A community meeting will be held at 7 tonight in the community center at Friendly Village, 5815 E. La Palma Ave., to address the subject. Railroad, city, legislative, and county transportation officials will discuss a $40-million proposal to build a sound wall and a Imperial Highway rail overpass.

Rep. Jay Kim (R-Diamond Bar), whose district includes northeast Orange County, has pushed for $14.5 million in federal funding, part of a pending transportation bill, to go toward the project. The Orange County Transportation Authority is assisting Kim in obtaining local and state money for the overpass.
