* Re editorial “Reject Century Cable Ploy,” April 12.

I’m pleased that the Ventura City Council has chosen to speak for us, the city’s 15,800 Century Communications cable subscribers, and to oppose Century’s rate hike.

I am dissatisfied with Century’s attitude and actions because:

* It charges more than any other cable company in the county.

* I cannot chose another cable company. There is no competition!

* If the Federal Communications Commission rules for the company, the rate will go up and the city will no longer have the authority to review Century’s rates. Imagine the raises in rates if Century is completely deregulated and we are held hostage!

The people of Ventura now have an opportunity to act and be heard. I urge subscribers to:

* Call the City Council’s hotline, 677-3944, and voice your opinion.

* Write a letter to the FCC and send it to the City Manager’s Office, P.O. Box 99, Ventura CA 93002-0099. The city will forward it to the FCC.
