From Times Wire Reports

Czech President Vaclav Havel was in intensive care but in stable condition after undergoing an operation to relieve a breathing difficulty, his doctor said. The 61-year-old Havel, who had been recovering at the Innsbruck University hospital in Austria from an emergency operation on his intestine, underwent endoscopic surgery after a buildup of mucus in his right lung during the night prevented him from receiving enough air. Surgeons later inspected the bronchi and said there was no evidence of any tumor. Havel’s general health has not been good since a lung cancer operation in December 1996.
