Work Scheduled to Repair Drain Systems

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works will conduct several construction and maintenance projects in the coming months to help improve the storm drain and sewer systems.

The first will be an effort to clean sub-drain vaults and overflow pipes, inspect and service flap-gates and inspect manhole covers at various flood control facilities throughout the county.

The $284,000 project, which will begin this month, should be completed in September. No streets are expected to be affected by the work, officials said.

Another project involves the construction of Devonshire Drain, Unit 2, in Granada Hills beginning in June.

The $2.39-million project will include installing nearly 13,000 feet of reinforced concrete drainpipe in Burnet and Noble avenues, Chatsworth and Los Alimos streets, Chatsworth Drive and Brand and San Fernando Mission boulevards.

The work will likely reduce traffic on Chatsworth Street and Chatsworth Drive, San Fernando Mission and Brand boulevards to one lane in each direction, and all streets may be closed at different points in construction, officials said.

Public works will take bids in May for a project expected to begin in July that would improve sewers in Agoura Hills. The work will involve installing liners in an existing 8-inch vitrified clay pipe mainline sewer system in an area loosely bounded by Reyes Adobe Road, Canwood Street, and Lake Lindero and Goodspring Drives.

Bids also will be taken for a construction project to reinforce the concrete-pipe storm-drain system in Canoga Park. That project will affect areas in and around Ingomar, Valerio and Saticoy streets, De Soto and Loma Verde avenues and Sherman Way.

Both projects would likely begin in August. Affected streets may be closed to through traffic during construction, officials said.
