Vote Due on Start of Bridge Construction

Share

The City Council will decide today whether to begin accepting bids for the construction of a bridge spanning the Arroyo Simi at Tapo Street.

The bridge, which has long been on the wish list of city officials and is considered a vital part of the city’s Tapo Street revitalization project, would connect commercial and industrial areas south of the arroyo with businesses along Tapo Street.

Officials estimate that the bridge would cost more than $1.7 million, with $890,000 of that coming from an earthquake assistance award granted by the state Economic Development Administration in February 1995.

An additional $827,000 in funding would come from the Oltmans Investment Co. Oltmans had bought the undeveloped property that the bridge will sit on from the LCF Group, which had committed to constructing the span once its Peppertree South Industrial Park reached 400,000 square feet.

The Southern California Water Co. will provide the remaining $13,000 needed to complete the bridge.

The City Council meeting will begin at 6:30 tonight at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road.
