Spotlight: Jobs Created by Foreign Firms Multiply, Study Says

Foreign firms are creating jobs in the U.S. five times faster than American-owned companies, according to a study by the Organization for International Investment, a Washington trade association for 60 foreign firms with U.S. operations. The number of Americans working for subsidiaries of foreign firms increased from 2.03 million in 1980 to 4.9 million in 1995, the latest year for which statistics are available. The study found the largest concentration of such jobs in California.
