Council Votes to Revoke License of Chief Motel
The City Council unanimously voted to shut down the Chief Motel, considered a thorn by residents who banded together last year to close the business down.
The motel’s closure, recommended by the Planning Commission in February, was appealed by Yung-Chen Lin, who has owned the Bixby Knolls business since 1982. But on Tuesday night, the council decided to revoke Lin’s business license and conditional-use permit.
“It’s been nothing more than a nuisance,” said Councilman Jeff Kellogg, whose district encompasses the Chief Motel in the 3900 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Lin said he will close the business in 10 days.
Long Beach police are quite familiar with the motel. Between July 1, 1995, and July 31, 1997, they were sent there 122 times.
Residents decided they’d had enough of the motel last August after two men robbed a fast-food restaurant in Orange County, kidnapped a 15-year-old girl and brought her back to the motel.
