Barkley Fined for Making Obscene Gestures

Charles Barkley was fined $10,000 by the NBA on Friday for making obscene gestures at fans and using profane language during the Rockets’ victory over the Utah Jazz on Thursday night.

Most of Barkley’s gestures and language were apparently directed at a single Utah fan sitting along one of the baselines.

Subscribers of Time Warner Cable in the San Fernando Valley were watching the Chicago Bulls and New Jersey Nets on Friday night when suddenly the screen went black.

An automatic timer was set to black out the Lakers on TNT at 7:30, but when the preceding game went into overtime, as was the case with the Bulls and Nets, the timer went off anyway.

The Bulls won in overtime.

A day after winning the Sixth Man Award, Phoenix Suns forward Danny Manning had knee surgery Friday.

Surgeons reconstructed the anterior cruciate ligament in Manning’s right knee and also replaced a torn lateral meniscus.
