Congratulations to Christopher Reynolds for getting the word out on travel agents’ service fees (“No More Free Lunch With Your Travel Agent,” Travel Insider, March 22).
It’s pitiful to see a 1% profit margin for travel agency owners (even worse after the commission caps and cuts by the airlines) for all the work and liability we assume. It’s clear the airlines are trying to put travel agents out of business. What other industry urges its customers to bypass its sales force (the agents) and go direct?
I’d like to see more consumer education on the monopolistic airline policies. If more constituents knew the facts, maybe they could put pressure on Congress and the U.S. Department of Transportation to stop this incredible corporate greed by the larger airlines.
