Approval Expected on 3 Harbor Blvd. Hotels
City officials are expected to put out the welcome mat tonight and formally approve the development of three hotels on Harbor Boulevard, a project that will replace a razed mobile home park and a closed restaurant.
The hotels, proposed for the southwest corner of Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue, will bring more than 900 additional tourist and extended-stay rooms to the area.
Garden Grove’s strip of Harbor Boulevard, from Chapman Avenue north to Anaheim, has become red-hot real estate since the Walt Disney Co. announced several years ago plans to expand the Disneyland resort, city officials said.
The hotels to be considered tonight--a 384-room Crowne Plaza, a 350-room Renaissance Suites and a 203-room Homewood Suites--will replace the landmark Belisle’s Restaurant, which closed this year, and the dismantled Oasis Mobile Home Park.
Three additional hotels are planned to replace several rundown motels on the city’s strip of Harbor Boulevard and apartments in the Yucca-Sage neighborhood.
A relocation plan for Yucca-Sage residents will also be discussed by the council tonight.
“There’s going to be a lot of construction on Harbor Boulevard next year,” City Manager George Tindall said.
The council will meet at 7 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
