Meetings Planned on Preserving Old Towne
Residents tonight may present their views on some of the touchiest aspects of preserving and renovating Old Towne’s historic district.
During five public hearings scheduled back to back, City Council members will consider a street lighting plan, a Plaza Park renovation, revisions to downtown parking fees, rules for patio dining and the Mills Act, which allows homeowners restoring historic homes to get tax breaks.
The hearings follow a number of consultant and other recent studies, including a “vision plan” developed by local architects for the downtown plaza. Their proposals would cost about $529,000 to execute, officials with the Community Services Department said.
Council members also will hear a report on new street lights that would carry a theme throughout Old Towne. If that plan is approved, bids might go out as early as next month, officials said.
The public hearings will start at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 300 E. Chapman Ave. They will be preceded by the council’s regular meeting at 4:30 p.m.
